MMSC Fruit Stand Flower

Good Morning!

I have not participated in the MMSC in a couple of weeks. To be honest, the last few sketches have scared the bejeebers out of me! I really thought there was no way to compete with the talent I was seeing on Priscilla's blog. That is a seriously awe-inspiring DT over there! I know that it's not a competition; but we all know that we judge our own creativity even if no one else does. There were just so many different elements and layers to the sketches that I just didn't feel like I could make anything that would do the sketch justice. I took a gander again this week and decided that this one seemed challenging but at least doable for me, so I decided to take a stab at it. There were a lot of layers with this one as well; but they were easy layers to work with; and truthfully I probably added more than the sketch called for...how's that for irony! Since there were so many layers this time, I didn't measure each of them. I can still give a general breakdown of the card however. I started with a standard size Close to Cocoa base. Next, I added a layer of Blush Blossom which I ran through the CB with the Swiss Dots folder. The two purple colors in the card are Perfect Plum and Pale Plum and the last color I used was Not Quite Navy. The Blush Blossom piece in the center behind the image is actually stamped with my favorite background stamp, "Fine Lace"; but it's hard to see in the photo. I stamped the main flower image, which is from SU's retired "Fruit Stand" in Cocoa ink and then used my blender pens with Stampin' Pastels to color it in. I added the buttons and the prima flower as the final decoration to finish the card. I know the orginal sketch calls for an additional element in the lower left corner; but I just couldn't make it work for my card, so I opted to leave it out.
So, there were are. I was pretty pleased with how it all turned out. I hope you like it as well. Since today is a holiday, there'll be no crafting for me as I intend to spend the day with family and friends. Therefore, I won't have anything to share again until Friday. Until then, have a great day!

Hello Dori - I am so glad that you played along with the MMSC this week! As I read through your post I thought how alike we all are - none of us are that confident with our own work - why is that!? Your card is fabulous, I love the image and the way you have used the sketch. I have played along with the MMSC from the very first one and decided that I could not try and compete with the DT as their work is so amazing, so decided to use it to challenge myself, to go 'outside of my comfort zone' and try and do that little bit better than last week - I found msyelf growing each week and loving it!! That is the bottom line - to keep loving it! The DT is inspired by the players - you each add something so different to the challenge and that is what it is all about! You Dori, have nailed this challenge! Well done!! Thank you for playing along with the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge, I look forward to seeing what you will next week!!

Well your stab this week came out pretty darn great :) I am so glad you went for it. I think your work is wonderful and we so love viewing your cards. I know how it can get when trying to work through judging your own cards..it makes me nuts sometimes.. shhh personally I lost my mojo this week and next weeks too, but that is ok..I have been trying to get ready for this vacation. My mind has been on laundry and packing..yuck LOL Here is a helpful tip that works for me.. Look at the sketch, then close your eyes.. see what images are inspired by the sketch and then the colors will fall in place..don't worry about the "SKETCH" it is meant for a guideline..Take a day to process it and then let those creative juices flow...I always have to just take time to picture it in my head and then bring it to life..get that mental image if you can and then it will flow :) Let me know if that works for you..Thank you so much for playing and PLEASE....just go for it.. we are not judging you..just her to gain inspiration from YOU and of course cheer you on!!! :)

Wow, I love the clear and clean defined lines in this wonderful creation. Don't be afraid to go beyond what you think you can do and reach for the stars. You will grow with each new challenge in your creativity. I wish you could see what I was doing a year ago...you would wonder how on earth I ever got to be on any Design Team...LOL I can tell by your card here that you have what it takes. You have a keen eye for color coordination, design theory, and presentation. I find inspiration in everyone's work, that's why I enjoy visiting all who participate in the challenge with us. I take a piece of that inspiration away with me each week and use it in my own work. Now...I want to see you again next week!!! Go for it!!!

Hugs,

Oh, don't let the sketches scare you, I feel that way every time YIKES! Priscilla loves to scare us so, think of the sketch as a suggestion, a starting point. SO glad you overcame this week, your card is wonderful.

Thanks for joining us this week, see you soon, right?

I'm sooo happy that you didn't stay away long, your card is just beautiful. The colors, the image, everything is so well coordinated and you should be proud of your creation. Use the sketch as an outline and remember you can think outside the box and tweak the sketch if you find it too challenging. None of the DT will come up with the exact same results even though we use the same sketch!! So go ahead and get creative, relax and have fun with your designs....you can do it!!
Big hugs,
Charlotte
